What we do
Sandwich Year Placements
We offer 4 placement opportunities that we develop, manage and deliver in-house, in the Hallam i-Lab:
- Start-Up
- Freelancer
- Film Production
For 42 weeks, students work to develop their own business within their chosen field.
We currently have 65 students on our programmes from different 24 courses.

Enterprise Residency
We deliver tailored Enterprise programmes to a variety of courses across the University, such as Criminology, Sports Science, Business and HR, English and Film.
Across either 1 or 2 semesters, students work individually or within a team to develop a concept for a commercial idea, connected to an assessed module within their course.
Hallam Freelancers
Hallam Freelancers is a zero-free agency that we run within the Hallam i-Lab. We connect student and graduate freelancers with clients and have generated over £50,000 of income for our freelancers since April 2022.
Pop-Up Shop
Our Pop-Up Shop is located on Howard Street, opposite Hallam Square. Students, graduates and external businesses may book the shop for retail or event-related purposes.
Hallam Made
Hallam Made is an annual craft fayre, taking place over two days in December at the Head Post Office (the University’s Art & Design building).
Events
GEW@SHU (Global Entrepreneurship Week) takes place in November each year. We deliver a range of Enterprise-related workshops and events throughout the week.
